The majority of top cryptocurrencies appear to be gaining ground on Tuesday with the total market capital peaking above $2 trillion.
Bitcoin price shot up to a multi-week high of $43,116 in the early Asian trading hours, CoinMarketCap data shows. Although the OG crypto has retreated to around $42,470 as of this writing, it is still trading in the green – up approximately 3% in the last 24 hours.
Ether price crossed $3,00o on the strength of the sharp overnight ascent, touching a five-week high of $3,040. Market data further shows that ETH’s 24 hr trading volume has swelled by almost 42% to $19.688 billion.
Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum Classic leading gain charts
A few other altcoins have stood out from the bunch, posting huge gains in the last 24 hours and 7-day timeframes. Ethereum Classic (ETC), whose price has been soaring since last Monday, soared past $43 hours ago on the back of 12.25% gain on the day. Overall, the token has seen a price surge of 70.45% since last Tuesday.
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is another top gainer on the day having climbed from a yesterday close of $335.23 to $363.48 at the time of writing. In the last 24 hours, BCH price against the dollar has increased by 10.38% bringing the weekly gains to 27.82%.
Other top performing alts include Cardano’s native token ADA and Polkadot’s DOT. The former is up 5.34% in the last 24 hours and 19.62% over the last 7 days. DOT has charted a similar path with 4.46% and 15.50% respectively in the same period. Avalanche (AVAX), Terra (LUNA) and Waves (WAVES) are all trading lower than they were yesterday notwithstanding their double-digit gains over the last one week.
The crypto market trading volume over the last few hours suggests that investors are showing interest in buying amid the latest fresh impulse. CoinMarketCap data shows that the 24-hr trading volume surpassed $100 billion earlier today.
