The new bitcoin advertising campaign is featured on three double-decker trams around the region
Bitcoin enthusiasts across Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong, have taken their advocacy of spreading awareness on the cryptocurrency to the next level. The move to advertise the campaign is made “in the context of ongoing financial and economic changes.”
The website bitcoin.org.hk released a blog post on the event last September 11th.
The blog begins by stating, “The educational campaign is an initiative from the Hong Kong Bitcoin community coordinated by the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong. The campaign is financed with donations from the community.”
From September 11th to October 8th, three double-decker trams that sport Bitcoin messages will be running all throughout the streets of the special administrative region, armed with facts and slogans that aim to help people learn about the cryptocurrency. The trams will be running on different routes for the next four weeks.
Each billboard sports the hashtag #GlobalInternetMoney as part of their advocacy. Other hashtags used include #BeYourOwnBank, #DigitalGold, and #MagicInternetMoney.
Apart from the trams, the campaign will also be displayed on billboards outside of the Chater Garden between September 11 to 24, as well as various billboards around Hong Kong Island between September 11 to October 1.
“We hope the campaign will give us the opportunity to discuss how Bitcoin fits into a quickly digitizing global economy, the opportunities and dangers of drastic technological advancements and the implications of digital, verifiable scarcity.” the blog explains.
A part of the campaign focuses on the importance of scarcity and how it is related to upholding a healthy monetary policy. One billboard is a reference to the massive extent of money-printing that happened in the US this year after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
“More U.S. Dollars have been printed in 2020 than were in existence in 2009. There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin.”
One billboard even features a quote by Stewart Brand, an American writer, who warns those who are not quick on their feet when it comes to adapting new technologies may find themselves crushed under its impact in the future.
“Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.” it reads.
This follows a move from the Apple Daily newspaper last August to feature a bitcoin advertisement on their entire font page. IIn the same month, the high profile digital currency hedge fund company Grayscale also conducted a widespread educational campaign on Bitcoin in the United States.
