The company will be using its BaaS platform to improve the CAFA’s supply chain system
VeChain, an enterprise blockchain platform, has announced that it has entered into a partnership with the China Animal Health and Food Safety Alliance (CAFA). It is now officially the consortium’s lone blockchain provider.
VeChain revealed that it is planning on using its blockchain as a service (BaaS) platform, the VeChain ToolChain, to leverage CAFA’s technical capacities and construct an end to end traceability system.
This will allow all the enterprise members of the alliance to log in the key processes of their food products onto the blockchain. The process surrounding the data entry is immutable and secured, which increases transparency and trust between consumers and enterprises.
“Traceability can start from cultivation, processing, packaging, logistics, to retail and more, which perfectly assists CAFA’s vision of providing consumers with safe, high-quality, and healthy food of animal origin.”
CAFA is an organization that is backed by the government and is directly under the Chinese National Agricultural Science Technology Innovation Alliance. It was created by the Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China in the year 2009, and it is working towards the development of a reliable platform that connects industry associations, producer enterprises, research institutes, and the government in the food sector.
The organization has over 130 members, many of which are notable companies in the food industry such as eCommerce companies, supermarkets, and food and beverage firms. Beyond the food industry, other members of CAFA are in testing and certification enterprises, consulting enterprises, veterinary medicine enterprises, industry associations, and scientific research institutes.
“By using VeChain ToolChain™, all enterprise members of the alliance will be capable of logging key processes of food products onto the blockchain in an immutable and secure way, bridging trust between consumers and the enterprises,” the announcement reads.
The VeChain ToolChain was launched in 2019 and has collaborated with several high profile enterprises such as Foodgates and the Walmart China Food Traceability Platform.
VeChain plans on propelling itself to the forefront of the adoption of blockchain technology through their work in traceability platforms. The company was set up in 2015 and has since expanded, with international operations in Singapore, Shanghai, Luxembourg, Tokyo, San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Paris. The company is strategic partners with PwC and DNC GL.
